Commitment to black dyeing

Kyoto Montsuki has been dyeing only black montsuki, traditional Japanese formal wear, for about 100 years. When the company was founded, all dyeing techniques were done by hand, but the workability has changed with the times and the techniques have been passed down to the present day.

Taking the black to a deeper black. In the final process, each piece is still processed by hand by a craftsman, inspected with strict eyes. Please see the skill of a craftsman who only dyes black.

Deep black -SHINKURO-

We have developed and perfected our own unique dyeing technique called "deep black processing" that makes black even blacker. After applying black dye processing, each piece is dried in the sun, then further processed in deep black, and dried in the sun once more to make the black color stand out even more.

This deep black processing is our own technology that absorbs light and makes the fabric appear black. The deep black processing only affects black colors, and does not affect other colors. Using this technology, we have achieved the ultimate black color that is unmatched in the world of Western clothing.

Materials to be aware of

Dyeable Materials
・Cotton, linen, wool, silk, rayon, cupra ・(Silk and wool are charged separately)
*Dyeing causes shrinkage (especially for rayon, wool, and cupra).

Caution: Dyeable products
- Blends with a high percentage of synthetic fibers (They may not dye black, so please refuse products with more than 50% synthetic fibers.)
- Rayon/Cupra blend (will dye, but may shrink)
- Products with resin-coated surfaces (there is a possibility of uneven dyeing)
・Silk suits, jackets, and coats (we will accept them if you are aware of the circumstances and explain the shrinkage, etc.)

Products that cannot be dyed
・Clothing made of 50% or more synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon, acrylic, etc.)
・Clothing with non-removable leather or fur accessories ・Clothing made with feathers such as acrylic, Kevlar, or down ・Clothing made with bonded fabrics or bonded fabrics ・Clothing made with down ・Clothing made with acetate

Other points to note
About the fabric
●Since the dyeing process is done at high temperatures, shrinkage or damage may occur depending on the material.
If the fabric is weak, it may tear or develop holes.
●Denim pants and other items that have been treated with distressing or other processes may become further damaged or the threads may become stained.
●Clothing that has been treated to retain its shape or be water-repellent may become unevenly wrinkled or discolored instead of dyeing black.
About sewing thread
●Sewing and embroidery threads are often made of polyester, so these will remain the original color.
For example, if a white garment is dyed black and the sewing thread is polyester, the sewing thread will remain as white stitches on the black garment.
●The sewing thread may fray and the gold and silver threads may discolor.
About color unevenness

●If the color has faded in parts, dyeable products will generally be dyed without any problems, but in the case of blended or interwoven fabrics, color unevenness may occur.
Blended and interwoven fabrics may have uneven colour depending on the ratio of the materials.
●If there is invisible oil or dirt on the product, those areas may not dye properly and may result in uneven coloring.
Accessories and tabs
●Leather patches on jeans and other items will shrink and become damaged due to the high temperature treatment during dyeing. Some items are made of paper instead of leather, but they will also become damaged, so we ask that you remove them.
●Buttons that are coming loose or are weak may come off or break. Wooden buttons may become discolored.
●Woven labels indicating the brand, quality labels, or labels with washing instructions may or may not be dyed depending on the material.
●Accessories such as rhinestones, jewels, and patches may come off.
●We cannot accept items that are missing the quality or washing instructions, or items with the text erased. Thank you for your understanding.
●Leather patches on denim pants, etc. will shrink and become hard when treated at high temperatures, so they will need to be removed and re-sewn.
*Charges start from 1,000 yen (excluding tax). Regarding deformation: *For new or like-new clothes, the dyeing process involves stirring the clothes at high temperatures, which may damage the texture of the clothes.
●Items with lining, shoulder pads, sleeve padding, or interlining may lose their shape. In general, we ask that you refrain from dyeing items. Regarding shrinkage: Items with a dry-clean mark on the washing instructions may shrink.
●Depending on the material and sewing specifications of the product, there is a risk of shrinkage when dyeing.
*Dyeing is a high-temperature process, so there is a risk of various problems occurring, such as damage to the fabric, shrinkage, color fading after dyeing, pulling of stitching, corrosion and deterioration of accessories, etc. We cannot take responsibility for such problems, so please understand and agree to the above points before placing your order.
